The following information was supplied by Archie Purgavie, a Corporal with the New Westminster Police Department:
Top row, far left: Wellington Miller. Miller joined the force in about 1892. He made $780.00 per year. By February 13, 1896, Miller was a Constable making $60.00 per month. In 1903-1905, he was a Police Chief.
Top row, third from left: Matthew Sylvestre Dillabough. He was identified by his granddaughter living in Vancouver. Matthew joined the force in 1892 and resigned in 1901. Corporal Purgavie has more information about him.
The members of the police force in 1892 were:
Mayor W.B. Townsend (probably far left, front row)
Chief Wm. Huston (second from right, front row)
Sergeant John Carty (far right, front row)
Constables – Thomas Dominay
1892 was the only year the police had 9 members before 1910. None of these people were still members by 1910 according to police records. Corporal Purgavie has another picture of Dillabough without the hat probably taken the same day as the Department photo.
