The New Westminster Public Library. The construction of the three-level addition was begun late in 1977. In September 1978 a grant of $400,000.00 towards the cost of a new building was personally delivered by Premier William R. Bennett and the library was re-opened on October 21, 1978. During construction, the library remained open except for a brief closure from August 6, 1978 - September 5, 1978. The library expansion totalled 17,800 square feet and cost 1.4 million.
