| Two
new stations in New Westminster, Braid and Sapperton, opened on January
5, 2002. The opening of these stations marked the first stage of a major
skytrain expansion known as the Millenium Line. Architectura and Walter
Francl Architect designed the Braid Skytrain Station following Baker McGarva
Hart's standard functional template for skytrain development. The construction
was done by Westpro Constructors Group Ltd. The architects wanted the
industrial and architectural heritage of this area of New Westminster
to be incorporated into their design. This was accomplished through the
use of heritage-style materials like heavy timber, metal siding, a metal
roof and glass. The Braid Street Station won an Architectural Institute of B.C. (AIBC) Merit Award in 2002. Click on Image to Enlarge |
