Sapperton Skytrain Station

Solid Rock Steel Fabricating, Hancock Bruckner Eng & Wright Architects, Glotman Simpson and Dominion Construction completed this $7.9 million project. Along with the Braid Skytrain Station, it was one of two new stations in New Westminster that opened on January 5, 2002.The opening of these stations marked the first stage of a major skytrain expansion known as the Millenium Line. The station was built below the nearby street level and was set between two sets of railway tracks. With its modular leaf-shaped metal roof system and truss system pedestrian bridge, the design incorporates a hybrid industrial/historical look. Other industrial elements are expressed by using lightweight steel and glass as major building materials. Today, this station serves two significant employers in this area: Royal Columbian Hospital and the Labatt's Brewery.
