305 Carnarvon Street
Keary House (1893)
Folk Victorian StyleThe house, built in 1893, reflects the simple Folk Victorian style of architecture. The architectural and historical significance of the house is high, as this home is the oldest known surviving structure in the Province designed by the noted architectural partnership of Samuel Maclure and Charles Clow. This house represents one of the first commissions granted to Maclure, the son of a Royal Engineer, from the family of James Keary, another pioneer Royal Engineer. Although it is now finished in stucco, the overall form of the house has survived with its original porch, windows, doors and decorative gables. Tudor gable elements and bay window brackets likely remain under the stucco and may be easily recovered in the future.
