652 Columbia Street
Edison Block -- Paramount Theatre (1902)
Designated 2003 November 17

The theatre was built in 1902 as part of the Dupont Block. It was redeveloped as the Edison Theatre in 1910. The brick and frame, one storey structure retains its original upper facade but is in poor condition. It was built as a vaudeville theatre and operated as a movie theatre until late 1982. In 1988, the interior was altered to permit the operation of a nightclub for young adults. The success of this operation was limited and other uses are being considered.
