The
Royal Agricultural &
Industrial Society of BC
Our
History
The Royal Agricultural and
Industrial Society of British Columbia was created in 1890 to organize and manage
the Provincial Exhibition, an annual agricultural and industrial fair that took
place in New Westminster's Queen's Park from 1889 to 1929. When a fire in Queen's
Park destroyed the exhibition buildings in 1929, Vancouver's Pacific National
Exhibition adopted the provincial status.
What
We Do Today
The Royal Agricultural & Industrial Society of British Columbia
is now involved in protecting and preserving a part of British Columbia's maritime
heritage, the Samson V Maritime Museum. This steam-powered paddlewheeler is the
last in a line of Samsons, which date back to 1884. While
the Samson V Maritime Museum is the focal point of our activities, the Society
supports other cultural and heritage activities in New Westminster.
