Society Overview
The
New West Heritage Preservation Society is one of the largest
and most active local heritage groups in British Columbia.
The society
enthusiastically advocates and supports restoration, and actively
promotes community appreciation of New Westminster's history.
For nearly 30 years, the society has strived to identify and
preserve sites, buildings, neighborhoods, houses and vegetation
which are important to the community's heritage. In addition,
the society is recognized as "the voice of heritage"
by local media and often appears before the municipal government
on heritage matters.
The
society has over 350 members and a broad base of stakeholders
including: the Heritage Foundation, other heritage groups,
municipal government representatives, local developers and
real estate agents, local media, and the business improvement
organization.
