BCER Interurban car "Duke of Connaught", 1912, prior to visit
by HRH the Duke of Connaught, Queen Elizabeth's thrice great uncle.
It was put into service after the Duke of Connaught's visit at
car #1304 and ran on the Fraser Valley line until October 1945
when it caught fire along Vedder Mountain rail line. The fire
was not noticed by the motorman nor the conductor until it was
near Cloverdale. The car burned to its waist line, and was hauled
to Kitsilano Barns and rebuilt in 1946 and put back into service
until 1950. The car was sold to the New England Electric Railway
Society and shipped to Glendale, Oregon, where it's on permanent
loan to the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society. It was
the last car to run on the Fraser Valley line on Sept. 30/Oct.

Information:
Twelve train passengers and Motorman Archie Bomstead were involved
in a train accident. The train skidded on the rails on Sixth Street,
jumped the curve on Carnarvon Street and crashed into a light
and trolley poll at 9:30 p.m.. Train was proceeding up the hill
and stopped near Cunningham and began to skid backwards due to
moisture and leaves on the rails. Passengers had to be rescued
by breaking side windows, since the train was resting half on
its side and the pole had wrecked the front door. Apart from bruises
and shock, no one was seriously injured.
