Music

#1902

Date: c.1917
Source: Joe Plaskett, donor
Photographer: Vincent C. Russell

Information: Westminster Operatic Club Concert. In the orchestra pit are members of the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra. Some of these musicians also appear in photograph no.153 - Music, (1918), and photograph no.154 - Music, (1916 - also taken by Russell). "Merry England" was the operetta performed in 1917. The dutch-looking headdress of the women is most likely an attempt to make a close fitting English maiden's bonnet. Note the Beefeaters, king and queen figures, and the fool in the foreground. Also not the English stage set, the same trees at the side of the stage are also in photograph no.153 - Music.
