Information: "Hyacks: Council Chambers: City Clerk's Office" Probably an early May Day (girls in carriage, left). Outside Hyack Hall, on Columbia Street near Church. The mansard-roof building, left, is the (1883) Post Office: in 1892 the library was built on the site beside it (where the bushes are). The gabled building next along was the last of the old Government Buildings which the R.E.'s erected at 6th and Columbia.

Information: May Day in about 1910. In car is Mary Gamon (Dawe). Car is probably a McLaughlin - first McLaughlin built in 1908.

Information: May Day parade going down 8th Street near Columbia Street (between Columbia and Carnarvon). Shop in foreground (next to the Barber's pole) is Thomas Oven's blacksmith shop at 39 - 8th Street. The Boys' Brigade are marching in front of a decorated horse-drawn carriage that is most likely carrying the May Queen and her court. The Boys' Brigade traditionally were the honour guard for the May Queen. Note the streetcar tracks.

Information: "Firing the anvil - traditional Hyack Brigade salute on Queen's Birthday in which gunpowder is placed between two anvils and exploded. This is taking place on 8th Street, just above Columbia close to Thomas Ovens' blacksmith shop." Capt. Peele - 1st man far left Charlie Farrand - 5th man from left Thomas Ovens - 4th from right.
