Social Life and Customs

#2394

Date: 1893
Source: Lucy Chambers, donor
Photographer:

Information: The wedding party of Laura Martin Fraser. Laura Martin Fraser was born in 1873 and died in 1958. Her first husband was Henderson Fiennes-Clinton who became ill on their honeymoon. His illness became T.B. and Laura became a widow at the age of 23. She married S.J. Chisholm Fraser in 1903. That wedding is pictured here. The bride and groom were the parents of the original donor of the photograph, Frances Fraser. In a letter dated April 7, 1986, Frances Fraser commented on the photograph. She surmised that it must have been taken on the front steps of the church recalling that there were wooden steps up the porch of the Catholic Church. She said although it would be odd for her mother's greyhound dog to be at the church, the house was fairly close by, so the dog could have followed the wedding party over there - Miss Fraser identified the group as follows. Front row - right to left: The groom - J.S. Chisholm Fraser, the bride - Laura Martng Fraser, here bridesmaid Margie Homer, the donor's grandmother Mary F. Molineux, Mrs. Dickenson. The little boy leaning against the post is Bob Dickenson, to his right is Aunt Fan Doyle. The man at back seen between the two grannies is Henry Doyle.
